A Traditional Anglican Parish for Tampa Bay

About the Parish

Resurrection was established in 2002 as an outreach for the Anglican archbishop of Rwanda to the United States.  Since that time it has continued as a traditional Anglican parish, upholding traditional book of Common Prayer spirituality, authentic Anglican worship and outreach locally and globally in the name of Christ.  We continue today as a member of the Anglican Communion under the oversight and pastoral direction of patron bishops of the Anglican Union: International confraternity of oratories of which we are a part.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

ANGLICAN

The Anglican Christian tradition began in the British Isles in the first centuries after Christ. Separated from the mainland of Europe, the unique cultural characteristics of the region influenced the way Christian faith was practiced, resulting in an expression of Christian worship known as Anglican.

ORATORY

Oratory comes from the Latin orare, meaning "to pray." Originally, an oratory was a physical place to pray. Based on the model of religious life established by Philip Neri of Rome in 1533, oratories became centers of learning, worship, and especially practical and spiritual service to the poor. Today, oratories are communities of Christians who gather for prayer and service, entering into the larger society for the purpose of building relationships with, listening to, and cultivating spiritual awakening among people outside the church.

PARISH

In many Christian traditions, a parish is the district within which clergy have responsibility for the spiritual care of the people who live there. The term came into use in the late 13th century in England. In modern times parish refers to the community of people who identify with a particular church or oratory. At Resurrection, we think of Tampa Bay as the community of people whose souls God has called us to love and care for.

Resurrection Members

What We Believe

As Anglicans we are members of the third largest expression of Christianity in the world, after Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy.

Like those churches we have inherited the deposit of faith that is over 1700 years, which we can summarize as follows:

  • We believe in the triune God:  The Father who created the world, His Son Jesus Christ who redeemed the world, and the Holy Spirit who sustains the world with hope, love, and compassion.

  • We believe the Old and New Testament contain everything necessary for salvation.

  • We affirm the historic creeds of the Apostles, Nicaea, and Athanasius.

  • We believe in the seven sacraments of the Church and celebrate them in their fullness

  • We believe the historic faith and order of the catholic church as have been received in the Anglican tradition through the ministry of bishops, priests, deacons, and the laity
